I find that DVD Shrink compresses the DVD in a way that doesn't ruin the video quality as much as DVDFab. Also, although DVDFab removes region code, RCE, etc; I find it necessary to use Free DVD to remove them completely.

How essential are Free DVD and DVD Shrink?

DVD Fab has an option to directly write an ISO image, after which one can use your favorite burner app or imgburn to create the DVD from the ISO.

It has a 'quality %" indicator just like DVD Shrink when selecting what you want copied if re-authoring the DVD.
